Review of Nothing in Common (1986) by Daniel V — 10 Nov 2012
The shift in tone is a bit too jarring, yet there are some things to like about Jackie Gleeson's final film. The Honeymooner is a craggy Ralphlike self in the story of a estranged father/son duo trying to understand why they are so estranged.
The guy trying to repair it on the other end is funnyman Tom Hanks. Hanks gets to show off some real dramatic chops towards the end of this flick. The first comedy 2/3 is much better than the dreary third act.
But if this would've been heavy drama for the whole 2 hours, who knows? For my money, I would've stuck to the funny.
