Review of Notes on a Scandal (2006) by Dr. A — 20 Aug 2009
All actors in this story are superbly done, but even if Cate Blanchett's performance was undeniably magnificent, Judi Dench really made my senses pop by "detaching" from her now very usual aristocratic/high class personifications to a seedy, lonely, working class commoner. Dench hit the nail on the head by daring to go further into the dark realms of a character. I truly hope for J.D. to keep up with these pieces of work and sort of "divorce" herself from the typical roles she's, in my mind, been typecasting herself into.
Now then, the film is very well written but takes a nose-dive at the end with a very predictable finish. I would've expected ALL CHARACTERS to be sentenced on screen.
