Review of Notes on a Scandal (2006) by Daren F — 17 Oct 2008
Totally serviceable flick. Judi Dench is fucking creepy as hell, Cate Blanchett was decent as the witch being burned at the stake and Bill Nighy was just awesome. Juno Temple's acting pisses me off since she's usually some form of bitch but damn did she look nice in a towel (it's okay, we're the same age).
Shame about the hair, though. Seriously, she should get a straightener cause she always looks like she's just been electrocuted. The plot was decent, although the affair was fucked up and kind of retarded in retrospect.
I didn't know unattractive fifteen year old boys who take their shirt off in public and stalk their teachers can bang Cate Blanchett. Why didn't anyone tell me? I also could've done without the mongoloid son.
I'm pretty sure they just made him retarded so Cate Blanchett wouldn't seem like too much of a bitch when she refuses to console Judi Dench after her cat dies. Besides that and Judi Dench naked in a bathtub (whereas Cate Blanchett is clothed during her sex scenes) I don't really have anything against the movie.
It just wasn't that interesting and the only real emotion I felt was for Bill Nighy. That man is brilliant. I loved his final speech to Cate Blanchett and the last shot of him letting her back in.
Awesome.
