Review of Not Today (2013) by Jim S — 20 Apr 2013
This is a very compelling, entertaining, and inspiring movie even without it super underlining the need for all of us to act to help rid the world of the terrible worldwide injustice of slavery. That would be the inspiring part.
The producers took on an incredibly difficult task and did an incredibly good job. What was so tough? How about transforming a heretofore highly spoiled young man into a conscience-troubled one willing to buck his peers to help a little girl and her father! This is for total strangers,in their land, without knowing their language or their religion! Plus, he has the maturity of a 16 year old, or less.
They pulled it off, and you,the audience, don't have to be a Christian to believe it. They even showed how people of different backgrounds can and will gladly work together to end an injustice. If you go see this film, you will both enjoy the historical fiction story and its multiple messages.
You may even decide to help, beyond buying a ticket. That would be very good since I believe that governments will never successfully handle this problem due to not wanting to embarrass each other. Oh, and if this film also kindles or re-kindles a desire in you to investigate Christianity then go ahead and begin at the source-the Bible- you will be amazed even more at that not unrelated story of redemption.
