Review of Not Fade Away (2012) by Liz D — 03 Jan 2013
The movie follows a group of friends who want to grow from a basement band to find their own voice and their own audience. Great, soulful music and the cast delivers. Terrific character development and enough subtle metaphors to make me want to see it again to make sure I got it all.
There is a nostalgic value you'll appreciate if you grew up listening to records - and can appreciate when shag carpets and avocado colored fridges were in vogue. The plot was not always linear, but if you're tired of Hollywood formula, that was refreshing.
The ending is unconventional, but I thought it worked and tied the various themes well.
