Review of Nostalgia for the Light (2010) by Chris Z — 04 Apr 2011
"I am convinced that memory has a gravitational force.".
This is a beautiful film constructed purely of physical mass. This is the story of death squads under the constellations of Operation Condor. This is an astronomy of the empty space of absent persons. This film is a body of shattered light. Physics tells us that there is no such thing as the present, that everything is already sometime past; Chile is one of these places that has only its past. A desert with air so completely pure and dry that there is nothing at all between the sky and the mass graves beneath it.
