Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by Brad S — 04 Jan 2015
Another Dracula movie, albeit this time with some stunning visuals. The pacing is nearly perfect, tightening the knot bit by bit until the last act when it sort of lets off the gas pedal. That's pretty much why I have a hard time rating this movie higher. I loved the first 80 or so minutes, but the final act is a lot of "I'm going to go over there... no now here... okay, let's go back there" kind of nonsense. The anticipation builds when Dracula is on the ship, but as soon as he reaches his destination the movie gets dull and there is just too much that happens off camera.
This is just a minor criticism, but it kept the movie from being a truly great horror movie. It was close to possibly being the best Dracula adaptation out there, but the final act just hurt it too much. Still, it's one of the better Dracula movies and definitely worth checking out.
