Review of Nosferatu (1922) by Andres S — 03 Aug 2009
Nosferatu is a great vampfilm howver it will lose modern audiences today with a slow paced story.
Acting - 8/10.
The acting that is truly commendable is the acting on the part of Max Schreck as Count Orlok and the acting of the character that played Knock. Count Orlok not only shows himself as a frightening evil menace who sends chills up your spine when he stares into the camera, but shows his cunning and conniving intellect that will want this prick to stay alive. Knock I liked for he perfectly captures a man who loses all of his free will and becomes a meat puppet to NOSFERATU. The supporting cast is qaverage but I reall6y did not like the hero of the film Hutter. He seems to me very uselss an unoriginal and no way reminiscent of Harker from the Dracula story even though they both have similar jobs.
Story/Originality - 7/10.
This film is a successful adaption of the book even though it is not. Count Orlock a a menace fully is similar to Dracula. Mina Harker as Ellen. It wasn't truly original but the naming of the character of Orlok just sent chills up my spine. AGain though I really did hat the actor that played Hutter and he puts to shame the Harker that was in the novels. Even his fear looked to be fake which made this remarkable film go a tad lower. ALso the Movie was truly slow paced and I saw myself doin the wave with my hands while watching this film but an interesting and good film nonetheless.
Shock/Horror Factor - 9/10.
Now this film isn't like some poppping out scary fest such as ewer films are today. The film has a dark and gotyhic tone that creeps the hell out of you and makes you feel as if snakes are craling up your spine. Count Orlok shows you a fear by merely seeing his presnce the way he stares, the way he moves, the way he wals, and the fact he barely speaks gives me the creeps.
Script - 7/10.
The script is a bit dry and the story is very slow paced as I mentioned earlier the main reason that the rating isn't any lower is that Count Orlok saves the script with the performence of him on the screen.
Entertainment Value - 10/10.
The film is a true horror film in every way, the villain, the horror, and the protagonist. This film should be high on your viewlist for any friday night horror fest that they need to see. Its a good film to watch an I now understand why the film is so high for every one that has seen it.
All in All Nosferatu earns a tight 41/50 ranking it a 82% in my eyes. The flm is a true definition of a horror flick and is not for the faint of heart but is a film you need to see before you die.
