Review of Nosferatu (1922) by Michael C — 04 Mar 2011
In this day and age we tend to be desensitized to most of the films we see. I can't remember the last time I watched a movie with a general feel of terror and appreciation churned in together. Nosferatu is that movie.
Creepy is putting it lightly as this film's style and tone leave the viewer leaning over on edge of their seat even in this day and age. Who knew black and white films could look so beautiful and carry such a wonderful tone of dread for the characters.
The music fits right along with the camerawork and actor's reaction shots. It is not scary as you make think but it does leave you with a sense of dread pitted deep in your throat and stomach. The shots of the Count's movements in the hallway, just walking forward creeps your core and the shadow work is something to be noted as it will make you take a second look to the darkness late at night.
A film classic.
