Review of Norwegian Wood (2010) by Leif N — 16 Mar 2011
Fans of Murakami should run to the theater to catch this. Anh Hung Tran's atmospheric aestheticism plays perfectly with the melancholy of Murakami's story.
As you'd imagine, the film is ripe with gorgeous camera work. The palette shifts with the mood, as does a great soundtrack from Jonny Greenwood. Some might feel the film fails in its, almost French, sometimes painfully languid, pace. I thought it was a bit slow at times, but the bigger sin was melodrama. But then again, young adulthood is often about histrionics.
