Review of North Country (2005) by Monty H — 17 Dec 2012
Excellent drama. The cast itself is very impressive. Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Sissy Spacek, Woody Harrelson, and Sean Bean. Based on a true story about a woman named Lori Jenson, played solidly by Theron, who works at a Minnesota iron mine and endures harrassment from her male co-workers.
She tries to rally the few other women miners to strike back with a lawsuit. This is riveting stuff with Theron giving one of the best performances of her career. It's better than what she did in her Oscar winning role in Monster.
She gets great support from veterans Spacek who plays her mom, and McDormand who plays her best friend. Even Harrelson is effective in his role as her lawyer. A must see film that should have received some type of recognition at the Oscars but sadly did not.
