Review of North Country (2005) by Gareth R — 20 Aug 2012
Charlize Theron is excellent, as usual. She balances fragility with strength, vulnerability with iron resolve, in this powerfully written role. The brutal realities portrayed resonate in the current economic climate, although one would hope that the themes of sexual harassment and misogyny are less pronounced in today's workplaces.
Frances McDormand is an excellent supporting actress, and Woody Harrelson gives a strong and believable performance. Overall, I found it a subtle, sensitive film that was believable and informative, although further investigation reveals it is, like so much in Hollywood, is only loosely based on reality.
