Review of North by Northwest (1959) by Tyler M — 31 Mar 2012
With such expert playacting, you make this very room a theater.
It's a cinematic experience that no one should ever miss.
The Story: A case of mistaken identity lands Roger Thornhill, in a dangerous game of cat and mouse. That's the simple version of it, but rest assured things get a lot more complicated as this epic chase across America begins. As the story unfolds, you'll be taken to numerous locales throughout America, meet a number of interesting characters, and get lost in the world of smooth talking spies. It's a fast paced story told with great special effects, that good ol' fashioned Hitchcock sense of humour, the kind of cinematic flair that Hitchcock was known for, and a lot of great and memorable characters.
The Cast: Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason...Cary Grant is the charming Roger Thornhill. Mistaken for a secret agent of the American government, and chased across the country, he's unforgettable here. Eva Marie Saint, is the sexy and seductive Eve Kendall, she's the kind of girl you don't take home to mother. She's definately one of the best Hitchcock blondes. James Mason is Phillip Vandamn, the villain. He's perfectly evil, and honestly sinister, a villain no one can forget. Everyone here plays so perfectly together that no one actor makes the film. That's good casting.
One to Five Scale: 5.
Great cinematography, great story, great characters, and an outstanding sense enormity when the film reaches it's climax on one of the nations most beloved landmarks. A great Hitchcock action flick that no one should miss.
