Review of Noriko's Dinner Table (2005) by Paul N — 23 Jun 2007
Noriko's Dinner Table is the sequel (or prequel...or SOMETHING) to one of my favorite movies, Suicide Club. I was absolutely hyped to watch this and finally answer some of the questions Suicide Club left me with.
Well...if that's your goal, don't watch this movie. Noriko's Dinner Table leaves you asking more questions than it answers, and it is loosely tied into Suicide Club, but the connection feels tacked on to play off the success of its predecessor.
The movie is essentially about a girl who feels no connection to her family and runs away to meet with a girl she met online who truly understands her. Noriko then joins this girls "business" of pretending to be peoples families who pay them to do so. When her sister follows in Noriko's footsteps, it leaves their father in shambles as he attempts to find them and bring them home.
The movie was confusing, it lacked in gore, plot, and direction, all it really had going for it was that the girls were pretty cute.
Fans of Suicide Club beware, this is one dinner table you should avoid sitting at.
