Review of Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press (2017) by Brandon K — 29 Jun 2017
First, I want to state how this whole documentary is reflection on the ability we have, as American people, to stand our ground. If someone attacks us, the ones we care about, or the thing we believe in, you can be damn sure that we aren't going down without a fight.
Now, was Gawker a slightly rough and biased news site? Yes. But was this documentary about defending their content? No. It's about the very real possibility of someone doing the same exact same thing to the media outlet you love.
For me, that's The Late Show with Steven Colbert. Yes, he may have had a close call of being out of a job with the comment about the only relative use of Trump's mouth, which involved the name Vladimir Putin, a slur for male genitalia, and the word "holster".
My point is, even though comments like these are a bit over the purverbial line, reporters and journalist have one job, getting the truth to the American people. Even though some of them are rough about it, and many of the are biased, the truth gets out.
Without the press, we will be isolated from the the truth of the outside world.
