Review of Nobody Knows (2004) by Zhen X — 17 Dec 2007
This was incredibly sad, a moving portrayal of quiet desperation in the lives of four deserted children. This is the kind of movie that doesn't require dramatic music to amplify its emotions. I remember looking at the world through children's eyes. I remember not seeing crowd or buildings, only bird poop on the window, puddles on the street, and shadows in the creek where leaves drifted. Children remember these details and this movie is shot from a child's perspective, in the way that many of these seemingly insignificant fragments of life is magnified and solemnized...
When I have a bad day and feel like crap I think about a movie like this. Knowing that there are real people like these out there, hopeless and completely trapped in their futile realities, makes me more than grateful for what I have in my life.
