Review of Nobody Knows (2004) by Jan S — 20 May 2010
What kind of mother would abandon her four children?
I haven't cried so hard since Magnifico. Nobody Knows is a heart-wrenching tale about selfishness and coming-of-age. The film felt like a documentary that you'll feel bad not being able to do something for the children or help them. Their situation is so horrible. Yuya Yagira (who's now a grown-up and is totally hot but now married to Ellie Toyota at 19) gave a superb portrayal of a young innocent boy whose childhood has been stolen by life consequences that won him 2004 Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award. The end of the film is so haunting that it'll stay with you for a very long time.
You know what makes this film sadder? It is based on actual events.
