Review of Noah (2015) by Bethany C — 15 Nov 2014
Weird movie. I'm all for creative interpretations of the bible, but they should at least make some thematic sense. I saw no sense at all in the plot details in this movie. Many seemed to be done only for novelty, and the thing is that they could have been done more accurately and been more novel anyway. Ultimately, I think it was forcibly trying to resolve the events in the aftermath of the flood with a more direct correlation to the events before and during.
Anyway, the pacing was crazy awful. This is the second Aronofsky film I've seen, and frankly, I don't see the big deal. Apart from the willingness to tackle difficult and unusual subjects for film, I just don't see him as a good director. His oft-praised visuals are certainly unique, but not particularly good, I hated the (over)use of the stop-motion-y animation in this film. Cinematography and editing were mediocre.
Crowe was alright here, not his most inspired performance, I suppose all of the cast performed adequately, once they were finally given something to do. That about does it for what I can be bothered thinking about this film.
