Review of No One Knows About Persian Cats (2009) by Vaibhav W — 24 May 2010

After lots of recommendations from bunch of my "persian" friends I finally bowed out to watch this piece of *cough* filmmaking if you wanna call it... and as expected it was really not good... I still don't call it a piece of s**t, but the reason it's being hyped as "great" is because it is the only thing that has come put of iran in a while that tries to have some kind of social commentary. I wonder if any of these "persians" who are hyping it, has ever really been exposed to any good filmmaking...

The whole movie is pretty much 4-5 really not good music videos (which all look the same with the same style of editing, no matter what kind of music is playing) strung together by a noodle thin story-line.

Ps. yeah I know the film has won quite a few awards internationally... but who cares if your movie sucks??? and do you really believe that it won those awards because of the quality of its filmmaking/narration???

Ps2. please somebody teach Bahman Ghobadi (or his DP at least) that there is something on the camera called "LENS FOCUS" and its essential to have a good control of it if you don't want to make your audience eyes bleed (and I am not talking about the deliberate unfocused shots on the female singer).

Ps3. not gonna comment on the acting, since its on-par with all the actors not being pro (the word "horrendous" a lot comes to mind).

Ps4. no I don't have any grudge with anyone related to this film... (a bit random) I have said before that Richard Kelly is not gonna have me buying his tickets any more.. same goes here. Because sloppy film making doesn't deserve to be paid for.
