Review of No One Killed Jessica (2011) by Bryon V — 19 Feb 2011
Not your typical Bollywood movie. While watching it, I kept being reminded of RANG DE BASANTI...and then a pivotal plot point is where someone goes to see that movie, and is inspired to mimic a scene from it!
One thing that was pretty odd (and funny) was the over-the-top use of vulgar language. In a Bollywood movie like this...it just seemed like it was done just for shock value. Rani Mukherjee drops the "F-bomb" a few times, which, while not a very big deal to Western audiences, is not a usual thing for Bollywood. The funny part, however, was the difference between what is spoken on screen and the subtitles. Often, when the word "Bitch" is used, it's transcribed as "Witch," and words like "Bastard" are changed into "Rogue." IIRC, they transcribed the "F--- you" lines to "Damn you" as well...as if we couldn't hear what she was saying.
