Review of No Escape (2015) by Randall S — 13 Sep 2015
My wife and I watched this at the recommendation of my mother, who loved it. It is a really good movie about the power of prayer. It was a movie most ciritics disliked and most of the people who see it like it.
Someone inclined to see a religious movie would also be inclined to like the film. We were pleasantly surprised, it was not Pollyannaish and showed how prayer can change lives by beginning with the person who is praying.
That has been my reality. Although overall, I think it is an awesome film and well done, there were a couple of areas that I found it missed the mark. The movie would have benefited from removing the scene where an armed thief gives up because he is rebuked in Jesus name.
That feeds the practice of "Christian witchcraft", which is the attempt to gain power and to get God to approve and fulfill our wills rather than seeking to surrender and submit to His will.
That scene was incongruent with the rest of the film and its overarching message. Also, one of the most powerful weapons in spiritual warfare was not even mentioned, much less promoted. I am referring to fasting, which should be a weapon in a Christian's battle plan.
With the caveats, If you think you need a better prayer life, see the film. If you think you don't need a better prayer life, see the film.
