Review of No Escape (2015) by Andrew O — 08 Nov 2015
Xenophobic but tense thriller starring Owen Wilson & a scene stealing Pierce Brosnan.
Owen Wilson and family find themselves caught in the middle of a violent coup in a namless South East Asian country where foreigners are being executed on sight.
Brosnan is on hand as a British tourist (complete with dodgy accent) who is not all he seems who helps Wilson & Family fight their way to safety.
The films politics & world view leave a nasty taste (boo nameless asian people, yay white good guys) but there are some genuinely tense moments in here. A rooftop jump scene involving Owen throwing his children across a chasm is a standout as is the heart breaking sight of the youngest child having to wet themselves to avoid detection.
Uncormfortable viewing for sure but gripping to the end.
