Review of No Country for Old Men (2007) by Rocknblues 8 — 07 Dec 2013
This was probably my 3rd favorite movie of 2007 just behind Jesse James and There Will Be Blood and just ahead of Ratatouille. It's a complex movie with a seemingly simple surface storyline. Many have debated the layers to this movie. Is it a horror film? Action movie? Thriller? I would say it's alittle of all of those. Granted, I haven't actually sorted out all the layers and maybe I don't understand this movie 100% (I don't think I'm the only one).
But I love this movie. It takes more than one view to get a good grip on what you're watching. It's not just about money. You got to keep in mind that this is really Sheriff Bell's movie, and that largely this is a country that's getting too violent for the baby boomers generation to really understand or cope with. Which is a lot of what this movie is about. If you take it as a run of the mill type of thriller you will be letdown.
Great performances by the entire cast. One of the best films of the decade without a doubt.
