Review of No Country for Old Men (2007) by Marshall L — 20 Mar 2015
Is a neo-western even possible in the 21st Century? The Coen brothers set out to prove that it is, and shockingly, they succeed. Granted, they strip the plot down to a barebones story about assassins, grifters and lawmen and toss the setting out the window, but they do still succeed on a visceral level.
The film that I would most compare this to is Robert Rodriguez's Sin City. It's not so much a western like Unforgiven or the Magnificent Seven as it's a neo noir on a tour of the Texas oilfields.
