Review of Nixon (1995) by Jewcifer W — 29 May 2008
Hopkins was the best part about this movie by far. I literally could not recognize him, he had enveloped himself so deeply in the character. the movie itself, however, was poorly done overall I thought.
the plot was laid out in a seemingly ADD way, with historical scenes just sort of mashed together in no particular fashion. also, most of the scenes lose their power because of unnecessary montages of random images.
the scene where nixon meets mao was especially undercut by this. the way it goes back and forth from earlier to later rather than progressively makes it confusing and ruins any attempt at building tension.
its fine to have flashbacks to nixon's childhood but I think the presidency shouldve been more chronological. overall, a great peformance by hopkins, but not a good movie or analysis of nixons presidency.
