Review of Ninotchka (1939) by Chris P — 02 Apr 2008
Lubtisch's perfect comedy is not only hilarious, sharp, sophisticated, and bursting with gentle satire, but it features Garbo, arguably the screen's ultimate actress, at her very best. This is the only time we get a glimpse of Garbo as something other than unimpeachable sex goddess; here, there's something human, flawed, approachable about her.
She seems in on the joke, something I hadn't thought possible. This is one of THE movies.
