Review of Ninotchka (1939) by Barry J — 09 Aug 2008
The genius of Ernst Lubitsch finally brought Garbo in Hollywood's Golden Year to a genre she should have been in long before, the rom-com. All of the interviews with her intimates I've ever seen testified to her great sense of humor and fun. What a shame others convinced her not to return Lubitsch's calls after this film, instead (mis)guiding her to make that dreadful Two-Faced Woman.
But Ninotchka remains a treasure, a great legacy from one of the silver screens greatest actresses.
