Review of Ninja Assassin (2009) by Doris K — 21 Sep 2010
If you can imagine being inside a tornado that's just hit a hardware store, that's what Ninja Assassin is like... shit's flying around all over the place and it may seem exciting while you're in the middle of it but at the end of the day it's just a sucking funnel of nothing but air and you're glad when it's over.
With a lead more wooden than Pinnochio and endless incomprehensible fight scenes with buckets of fake CGI blood, the whole thing very quickly becomes repetitive to the point of boredom. Add in the fact (or subtract the fact) that there is no storyline to speak of, and it's basically an hour and 39 minutes of fight scenes. Even Steven Seagal attempts to shoe-horn a plot into his films, and Ninja Assassin is sorely missing something to tie all the chop-sockey together.
However, the movie is called Ninja Assassin, not Macbeth. If you want a movie about ninjas, assassins or a redundant combination of both, then this is it.
