Review of Ninja Assassin (2009) by David W — 03 Oct 2011
Stumbled on this completely by accident whilst browsing Youtube movie trailers, as I don't usually tend to watch anything with "Ninja" in the title - not because i'm not into the genre, but coz those types of films were done to death 30 years ago. Ninja Assasin has the usual run-of-the-mill storyline where pupil grows up and turns against his former master, but what lifts this film from the crowd is the fight sequences, which are pretty cool.
The Ninjas seem almost to be dancing in an elegant Ballet of death, and this forms a perfect contrast to the brutal and CGI-enhanced gory bodycounts that pile up throughout the film. Forget the plot and disengage your brain, this is pure visual entertainment at its most visceral, it's Equilibrium meets Robocop1 on steroids!
