Review of Nine Dead (2010) by Steve S — 11 Mar 2010
Clearly a copycat Saw film, it does add some interesting variations in the story. What it doesn't do is get beyond stereotypes and cliches. Guess who the mystery person behind the mask sounds like. Most of the other characters are better developed and nuanced.
As horror, it manages to be slightly better than average and the actors for the most part pull it off.
Be prepared for lots of inconsistencies. While the puzzle itself is well thought out, the other parts of the film were either rushed, simply not cared about as much, or focused more on pleasing everybody, probably a little of each.
