Review of Nine (2009) by Steven C — 04 Dec 2010
Rob Marshall's "Nine" is extremely underrated. The film is expertly shot and edited. This is an extremely visual picture, where, unexpectedly, most of the story and emotion is portrayed in the mise en scene rather than the actual narrative.
Symbolic musical numbers, which are full of life and character development, drive the story home. The cast is great, the scenery is great, the story (based on Fellini's "8 1/2") is great and the whole thing ends up being very memorable.
.. well, at least for me. I think many viewers got lost in the visual symbolism, so please, pay attention when you see "Nine", you will be all the better for it.
