Review of Nim's Island (2008) by Andrea S — 30 Mar 2009
Caught this on TV, and was glad to be doing other things while it was on... seemed like the original story may have had a lot of promise, but fell REALLY flat in the execution. Might have been because they were trying to keep it short, but it lacked a lot of the wonder and 'cool factor' it should have had.
Jodie Foster's character was just annoying (yes, we GET it, you're agoraphobic)... Breslin's was whiny (yes we KNOW you're on an island by yourself)... and Butler's was almost inconsequential (uh, why were you in it again?).
Might be really good for kids, as it was probably originally planned... but don't expect to enjoy it as anyone over the age of 15.
