Review of Nim's Island (2008) by Maegan J — 16 Feb 2010
Adorable family movie! Nim is a girl who lives with her widowed microbiologist father on a small, uncharted island in the Pacific. They have a happy life at one with nature when the father is caught in a storm at sea and must use his know-how to try to get home to his daughter. Meanwhile (back at the ranch), Nim, in desperation for help, contacts her adventure-novel hero via e-mail, not realizing that she's only e-mailed the recluse author who suffers from agoraphobia. Madness ensues, but it isn't over-the-top.
"Nim's Island" does a great job at being a fun, outdoorsy, upbeat adventure with a great message for kids about how courage is shown in the face of fear, not without it.
Highly recommended, especially for kids.
