Review of Nim's Island (2008) by Valerie P — 25 Mar 2012
Either I'm getting too old to enjoy light-hearted family films, or this film just isn't very good.
A little girl and her dad live on an island in the middle of nowhere. When her dad doesn't return from a boat-trip, the girl tries to convince the author of her favorite books to join her on the island to help her search for her dad. What she doesn't realize is that instead of an adventurer extraordinaire, the author is an anxiety-riddled, house-bound woman.
What really sunk this one for me was all the animal buffoonery. When a seal passes gas at people in order to scare them away from an island, or lizards launch themselves at people's faces... one tends to roll their eyes.
