Gritty, powerful, dark, disturbing, sickeningly violent, and laced with some rather fruity language - yet in the same token a mesmerising movie that is as hard to ignore as it is to watch. Ray Winstone in particular is incredible, and this stands out as one of the masterpieces of British cinema.
