Review of Nikita (1990) by Marissa C — 02 Jul 2008
I know I'm going against the grain on this one, but honestly I did not find this film all that captivating. Though Parillaud is a beautiful woman, I didn't find her acting as powerful as her looks.
Some of her choices to make Nikita seem "vulnerable" to me seemed a touch overdrawn and overused throughout. Also, the whole tenor of the movie felt vaguely misogynistic and a little more 1961 than 1991.
I guess this is what I get for listening to hype...too high of expectations. Jean Reno makes a great cameo appearance just when the film started to drag a bit and there were tender moments with Duret and Fontana that made up for all of Parillaud's antics.
