Review of Nikita (1990) by Matthew B — 25 Oct 2008
Strangely, the first half of this film reminded me of Miss Congeniality, while the second half was that tv show Alias. Overall, this wasn't a terrible film -- but it is plagued by the typical French downfalls.
..that of an overly deliberate pacing. I'm not necessarily saying that taking time to develop small details is a bad thing...but clocking in at just under two hours when it could have easily trimmed off a half-hour is a little excessive.
The biggest downfall to this movie, however, is the lack of a more developped internal struggle. She has three assassin jobs, but that wasn't really enough for her to develop as a character. I guess that might be why there was a television show based on this movie? At least I seem to remember one being made.
