Review of Nikita (1990) by Tom B — 24 Jun 2011
"NEVER UNDERRATE A FATAL WEAPON.".
French Director Luc Besson's (The Professional, Fifth Element) first feature length film was one of the most slickly made and ultra-stylish assassin films to ever be made. At the time, not many female leads had been established, La Femme Nikita changed the face of the typical action film forever. It's completely sexy, seriously seductive, downright violent, a pure thrill and a damn good piece of trigger happy entertainment. The sexiest assassin film to ever be made, Nikita was remade in America and spawned an American T.V. Series, but nothing compared to Besson's original film. This film was the start of Besson's highly successful and critically accaimed career in filmmaking. A perilously blood-filled Femme Fatale that's nothing but spectacular style and sleek filmmaking at it's best. An early 90's action classic that, along with his own "The Professional", spawned a cult following of the masses and deservedly so, these films are awesome. These films were an inspiration for many modern films including "True Lies", "The Boondock Saints" and "The Long Kiss Goodnight.".
Anne Perilaund stars as Nikita and does a great job throughout unleashing her inner badass. It's also worth mentioning she is some serious eye candy. A fine woman and a gun, thereby nothing kn the planet anymore sexy than that combination.
