Review of Nights of Cabiria (1957) by Matt C — 27 Dec 2015
Giulietta Masina returns in a rather harsher role as a prostitute who wants to find love and settle down. Masina steals the screen again, initially unlikeable but rather vulnerable and at times comically awkward.
There is a fatalistic feel to this story, it is beautifully filmed with the odd surreal touches, and the scene with Cabiria and the stage hypnotist are as beautiful and moving as anything I've seen on screen.
Another ultimately depressing film but beautifully written, filmed and acted. Stunning.
