Review of Nightmares in Red, White and Blue (2009) by Joshua F — 24 Jan 2011
Great horror doc. Covers a little bit different material than Going to Pieces, which is just about slasher flicks, however it doesn't have as many different filmmakers interviewed. The old guard are here, though - Romero, Carpenter, etc.
, but the new guard not so much. Darren Bousman is really the only 'Splat Pack' director they've got. This doc covers the socio-cultural context of horror better than Going to Pieces, though.
I think they should have talked on recent horror a bit more, but overall it's a pretty extensive body of work covered. People who don't like horror films should definitely watch it to find out why they should like horror films.
