Review of Nightmare City (1980) by Kris Z — 08 Nov 2007
Um...this movie is slightly...let's see...insane?? The zombies here are basically guys who are pissed at being in a nuclear accident who run around just killing people. And they use weapons. And run.
..and tear off your clothes before they kill you...if you are female. And you know that they are zombies because...well, besides their murderous behavior...they have oatmeal on their face. To be fair, some of the set pieces are decent, the sense of chaos as the panic and disease spreads is good, and some of the crowd stuff is done well.
the initial attack of the zombies is great!...and I liked the way that it ended....However, the acting is atrocious...the main "hero" has one look for terror, determination, desire...There are a couple of laughers though.
..a body falling and bouncing off of railings that is obviously a body sock...and a scene where the heroes are trying to get out of town or get help...and they stop at a gas station, go inside, and make tea and basically just chill forever until they are of course surrounded.
..and then they are surprised! This was in heavy rotation on TV when I was growing up (as City of the Walking Dead)...and some of the images are classic...fun entry in the exploitation "zombie" canon.
