Review of Nightbreed (1990) by Robert H — 30 May 2010

I love the imagination of Clive Barker. Nightbreed is Barker's imagination on overdrive! The look, the story, the style, everything is bizarre yet whimsical, dark yet fun. The fact that it takes place in Canada is also a plus. Don't see that all too often.

Cronenberg is so much fun and the killer's mask is just plain evil looking. Cabal is quite a long novel so with a running time of 1 hour 40 minutes, you have to know that Nightbreed had to cut out some stuff.

I would have rather Barker take a more gruesome approach rather than a fantastical one but it is his imagination so you'd think he'd know best. Other than that, I feel that the only other weak aspect of the film is the story. It feels as though it's missing something. As if everything is rushed.
