Review of Nightbreed (1990) by Paul J — 07 Apr 2015
A ridiculous movie that tries but fails. That said, it has a dedicated cult following who will defend the film passionately. Truth be told, the best thing about it is the plethora of incredible monsters.
Clive Barker assembles enough creatures to fill six movies. The make-up and prosthetics are easily the most impressive thing about the film. It's also fun to see Cronenberg as a villain. A shame that the script is atrocious, the action clunky, the look of the film is dated and the tone is overall goofy.
Perhaps because the monsters are the "good guys", there really isn't anything scary about it either. I suppose it's fantasy more then horror.
