Review of Night Train to Lisbon (2013) by Rebecca C — 23 Mar 2013
It is an almost impossible job to adapt amazing books for the screen. This film proves it again. The characters are lost in a rushing plot that is very far from the intensity of the book's narrative.
Jeremy Irons is however a convincing Raimund Gregorius, the ageing Swiss professor who takes us in this captivating journey through the human soul. Lisbon's unique character, its fascinating balance between past and present is amazingly captured.
It is in fact more a film on Lisbon and its past than on Pascal Mercier's book.
