Review of Night of the Zombies (1980) by Brandon B — 05 Nov 2008
When it comes to Dawn of the Dead rip-offs, there is one movie that stands above the rest of the pack: Hell of the Living Dead! Derided by many horror fans as the worst zombie movie ever made, this film is nowhere near as bad as its critics would have you think.
Or maybe it is... but it's so bad its good! Unlike House of the Dead or Dawn of the Dead '04, which are just so bad they're bad. A classic in the Italian zombie movie tradition and featuring tons of pointless gore and idiots who can't figure out how to shoot zombies in the head.
A favorite character is the nutjob who likes to play chicken with the zombies. Bruno Mattei is the Scorsese of bad Italian horror films! Plus, keep your ears peeled for the amazing Goblin score, cribbed from Romero's Dawn of the Dead!
