Review of Night of the Zombies (1980) by Jon P — 01 Apr 2015
Offering exploding heads, incoherent dubbing and shoddy synths galore, Bruno Mattei's Romero ripoff is allegedly a spaghetti horror classic.
The film stars the sort of shock-happy characters who've never seen a zombie movie before, as they navigate their way through offensive tribal stereotypes, closeups of people being sick, and random bits of wildlife footage spliced straight from old nature documentaries.
Occasionally the odd zombie pops up and nibbles a rubber hand or chews on a steak strapped to an actor's leg but, for the most part, this clueless film is the utter pits of an already pitiful sub-genre. Even the unintentional comedy is limited, and that's disappointing, considering Claudio Fragasso was involved in writing and direction.
