Review of Night of the Living Dead (1990) by Marques M — 11 Jul 2008
Passable re-make that can't hold a candle to the original in terms of suspense. Sticks very close to the source material--only, you know, in color with gooier make-up effects-- but the slightly more polished production is missing the sorta raw feel that only enhanced Romero's version.
Savini doesn't show too much skill behind the camera (his only major attempt) but there are far, far worse first-time features out there. Bonus points for steering Barbara away from the catatonic mess she was in the original, and Tony Todd makes for a great Ben.
