Review of Night of the Living Dead (1990) by Carl N — 08 Sep 2009
I know that this is probably in some way blasphemous to admit to watching this remake of George Romero's zombie classic. And even more so when I admit to thoroughly enjoying it. FX master Tom Savini takes on the directing duty, so I was expecting some nice gore set pieces.
But the gore is very tame by Savini standards. The film basically retells the original up until the third act. Barbara is turned into an ass-kicking heroine, Rather than the original nervous little madam.
The ending is dramatically changed but is still shocking none the less. What also really sells this is the amazing cast. Tony Todd, Tom Towles, Patricia Tallman And the fantastic Bill Moseley as Johnnie.
"They're coming to get you Barbara. They're horny Barbara." If you enjoyed the original I think youâ??ll enjoy this. Give it a go.
