Review of Night of the Living Dead (1968) by Kyler D — 03 Jun 2011
It never ceases to amaze me how a first time director with virtually no funding, training, or equipment could create a film that literally revolutionized Hollywood. Arguably the first horror movie to offer a biting social commentary and legitimate visceral terror, NOTLD breaks down long established barriers with a black hero, screen violence, and an utterly pessimistic ending.
Filmed in the backwoods of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, George A. Romero's first and best effort features great performances by unknown actors and proves that with a great script and a dedicated crew independent films can break through and have an eternal impact.
If you haven't seen this film...shame on you. Don't just rent it, go buy it now!
