Review of Night of the Living Dead (1968) by Facebook U — 31 May 2015
For those that say this movie is predictable and cliche, I think you're forgetting that at the time of its release, it was revolutionary. Nothing like it had been seen before, the so called predictable plot was all new back in 1968, and audiences had never seen something like this.
It's a shame that this movie is branded as predictable because newer movies have over done it. In fact, the movie's ending was probably the most original thing to come out of 60s horror. This movie is a classic, and yes, at times it does show it's age, but give me that over poor CGI any day.
It's beautifully shot, taking great advantage of the black and white. The coloring gives you a sense that you've been dragged into a nightmare realm with the undead, making it far creepier than any other zombie to come later, and the choice to have the movie take place mostly in the house creates so much claustrophobia, and creates real fear because you don't know what's going on in the rest of the world.
It's that feeling of being pulled into a foreign realm and having no control over the situation that really makes this movie special.
